Excessive Sweating Problem? Here’s The Solution To Excessive Sweating

February 22nd, 2009

If you’ve got an excessive sweating problem, and are not just profusely sweating because you exercised hard, or spent too long in a hot room, there are certain easy things you can do to help remedy the problem.

Clothing can cause a sweating problem.

OK, the first thing to do is check the basics… are you sweating excessively because you’re wearing clothes that don’t let your skin breathe? Certain man-made fabrics don’t let the skin breath and will cause or exaggerate any excessive sweating problem. Stick to light-coloured cotton fabrics. They’ll decrease the amount you sweat compared to artificial fabrics, and also white will disguise any perspiration.

Foods can make you sweat excessively.

Sweating problems can be caused by unnecessary stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. What that means is you should avoid caffeinated drinks, alcohol and spicy foods. Of course, it’s fairly obvious that hot drinks will raise your internal temperature and cause your body to use the natural temperature-reduction mechanisms of pumping blood to the skin and sweating. So try to avoid hot drinks if you want to reduce your excessive sweating problem.

How you feel is important in reducing your sweat production.

You should also try to remain calm. Of course, in some situations it may not be possible to remain calm, but you should try relaxing and regulate your breathing if at all possible so as to minimise the stimulation of your sympathetic nervous system which is directly reponsible for sweat production.

Where you are can make sweating worse.

Naturally, if you’re prone to excessive sweating, it would be wise to avoid hot, humid places… even rooms with lots of people and little ventilation can be a problem. Try to spend time in open spaces, or in large, well-ventilated rooms.

If you’ve already considered these basics, then it’s time to consider using anti-perspirants. You can get strong anti-perspirants from your doctor, so that’s something to consider. Other possible solution to an excessive sweat problem is iontophoresis and botox injections. Take a look at other blog posts for more details on those solutions.

We advise that, before getting surgery or taking any medication, anyone thinking about getting treatment for uncontrollable sweating should consider natural treatments and remedies first. Multiple Home Remedies For Excessive Sweating

February 21st, 2009

There are many different home remedies for excessive sweating, many of which are common sense, such as wearing natural fabrics that let the skin breathe (such as cotton) as opposed to synthetic materials that result in excessive perspiration. Such man-made fabrics are polyester, polyblends, nylon and acetate which don’t let the fabric breathe. Anyone suffering from profuse sweating would do well to simply avoid wearing clothes made from such fabrics.

Learning some mechanisms for coping with stress and anxiety, such as breathing techniques, can help you feel less tense and nervous which will decrease the amount you sweat. With practise, you should be able to reduce the perspiration levels, which will generate a positive feedback loop because you’ll be worrying less about sweating, which will mean you’re more relaxed and sweat less.

Making sure you bathe frequently will ensure your pores are clean and will remove the bacteria that cause bad odours. By drying your skin well, you’ll deprive any remaining bacteria of a damp environment to grow in, which will prolong the time before body odour develops.

Avoid stimulants of the sympathetic nervous system, such as caffeine, alcohol and spices. Simply staying away from such chemicals will ensure your body isn’t producing more sweat than it would normally. It’s thought that zinc may help decrease sweating and body odour, so eating whole grains and nuts as part of a balanced diet may be beneficial. Another thing to try is sage tea, which some people claim helps reduce excessive sweating.

Night Sweating - Is It Sleep Hyperhidrosis?

February 20th, 2009

Most people don’t know that “night sweats” is actually medically known as “sleep hyperhidrosis” because it’s excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) while sleeping. Interesting, people who suffer night sweats may not have daytime excessive sweating.

What Is Night Sweating?

Excessive night-time sweating, which usually arises during adolescence, gives rise to a whole different set of problems than daytime sweating. For example, the actual night sweats can make the sufferer so uncomfortable that they wake up during the night and therefore have disturbed sleep patterns.

It’s important to distinguish between regular night sweating, as a result of the bedroom getting too hot, or having too many bedclothes on the bed which causes almost everyone to sweat, and real sleep hyperhidrosis. The difference is that people with excessive night sweating will have severe “hot flashes” while asleep and wake up to drenched bedclothes and night-wear.

What Causes Night Sweats

Night sweats can be caused by simple genetics… ie you may be more prone to sweating at night in response to certain conditions, which can be harmless although very frustating. Some of the medical conditions that can cause night sweating are the menopause, which is a very common cause of night sweats in women of menopausal age, infections such as tuberculosis, endocarditis, osteomyelitis and abscesses. Night sweating can also be an early sign of some cancer types, can be caused by usage of some medications (especially anti-depressant medications) and can be due to hormonal imbalances.
